Building links to your WP-Answers site is vital for you to obtain some good rankings.
If you started out with an aged domain link I recommended then you have an advantage as you can build links slightly faster than people with new domains; if google see too many links going to a new domain they can dampen it's rankings (known as the sandbox).
I tend to do a bulk directory submission at the start, you can get people who will do this on DigitalPoint quite cheaply or you can buy some submission software and do it yourself. Its probably worth getting the software if you're going to run a few Wp-Answers sites.
The next stage of link building is to buy a few blog posts on relevent blogs, I also use DigitalPoint to find these - just make a post saying you want to buy blog posts in your niche. I find the best blogs and buy around 5 posts to start with. Look out for blogs that are genuine and have been extablished for more than a year as these links will count more. Check they are cached in google and look how many pages have been indexed.
Blogs to avoid are ones on strange domains the dont relate to the content - these are normally expired domains that people have bought because of the PR and setup a blog on there - I believe domains that have dropped cant pass page rank any more.
Get some social bookmark backlinks next, you can use a service like OnlyWire - this is a service where you can list all your social bookmark accounts and use a wordpress plugin that will submit all your new posts to each service.
That should be enough to start gaining you some rankings for your site, over time you can add more links by buying more blog posts and you can do some article submission as well.
Other easy to gain links are to sponsor themes that are being released for free, check DigitalPoint again for this.
