1. Choosing a Domain Name
Its perfectly fine to set up Wp-Answers up on a new domain or add it on to an existing blog.
For the best results we recommend purchasing an old domain, older domains will often be out of the Google sandbox, will have existing links pointing to them and will have some initial traffic.
You can pick up domains or even better, existing wordpress blogs from places like Flippa and DigitalPoint.
2. Setup of Wp-Answers
Firstly you need to install a copy of Wordpress
Then upload the WP-Answers plugin folder to http://yourdomain.com/wp-content/plugins/
Then upload your chosen theme(s) to http://yourdomain.com/wp-content/themes/
Login to your admin panel and activate both the theme and plugin.
3. Extra Plugins
We recommend you also add these extra plugins :
Akismet
All-in-one SEO
Auto Tag
WP to Twitter
Recent Comments
Related Posts
Read my how-to guide on how to add WP to Twitter here.
Any other plugins you can use are also recommended as ideally you want to make your site as unique as possible.
4. Setting up Auto Posting
In the Wp-Answers options panel, you need to enter a Yahoo API, these are Available for Free Here.
Create some categories for your site and then click on "Manage Auto Posting"
Select "New Auto Posting Campaign"
At the top "Campaign Name" is what you will call this auto-posting rule, beneath it "Search Term" is what will actually be searched for on Yahoo Answers.
Fill out both of those and then choose from the dropdown box : UK, USA or Canada, this is which country-specific Yahoo Answers site will be used.
Next all you have to do, is enter how often to auto-post this particular search term, for new sites I keep each rule to around 10 hours.
Choose which category for the posts to go in, and the post status (I always use "publish" but you can use pending or draft if you want to double check the posts before they
go live).
Click "Save Changes" and you have created a rule.
Repeat these steps for as many key words as you'd like. For new sites, I like to grow the site by around 8 posts per day untill google is regularly crawling and indexing
new posts. After a month or so I add more keywords untill Im getting around 20-30 posts per day.
5. Getting your site crawled
Create a twitter account for your site, and make sure you enter a correct email and confirm the registration with twitter so your tweets are shown in the public search.
Use the twitme plugin to setup posting every one of your posts to the twitter account. I have found this a great way to get google crawling the site and indexing new posts.
Your account will also build followers who may visit your site from your tweets and retweet them.
Link building to your site is also a good idea, directory submissions are worth doing to build some backlinks. Check out digitalpoint again for people offering to do bulk
directory submissions.
6. Monetising
I find adsense integrated into the posts as the best way to make money from WP-Answers sites as it contextual and Google tailors the adverts to match your content.
Also use the 125px ad blocks to insert some relevant affiliate adverts, search cj.com clickbank.com etc for offers that match your niche.
Once your site has traffic and PR you can offer private adverts for sale using a site like buysellads.com or managing them yourself by offering them for sale at forums etc.
7. Flipping Your sites
Once you have a steady income each month you can either carry on building more WP-Answers sites as they are set-and-forget type sites or (if you have a developer license) you
can offer them for sale at market places like flippa.com
Make sure you take the time to create a good sales listing, provide screen shots of all your income sources and provide google analytics data for prospective buyers.
You can expect to earn around 12xmonthly revenue with these stype of sites.
8. Conclusion
The concludes this brief overview of how to set up your first WP-Answers site, in future guides I will be going to into more detail about :
Niche Selection
Keywords
Search Engine Optimisation
Template Design
In the meantime if you have any questions or comments, please leave them and I will get back to you as soon as I can :)
Hi Oliver,
You say in #6 above:
"I find adsense integrated into the posts as the best way to make money from WP-Answers sites as it contextual and Google tailors the adverts to match your content."
How, specifically, do you do that? Even though I've run a popular niche site for 10+ years, I'm late to the adsense game.
Thanks,
Jim E
Hello Jim,
If you take a look at this post, I cover adsense placement and colors there : http://wp-answers.com/support/discussion/4/importance-of-tweaking-adsense
the autoposting feature isn't working for me Oli... pretty sure i've got the settings right, but i'm having to do a manual post each day (which is working).

any pointers?
cool plugin btw, really enjoying messing around with it.
one thing you should fix for the next release is an error in the single.php file in each of the themes, you open with an h2 and close with an h1:
Hi Dave,
Thanks for pointing that the h1/h2 error - I will fix now.
We discovered a slight bug with some versions of curl which we have fixed - an update should be going out today.
Hi,
We will mail you a download link when its ready :)
Thanks for the plugin and themes. I have a couple of questions hope you don't mind. Not sure if i understood exactly the use of ''Auto Posting'' feature.
1. How often should I set an Auto Posting campaign?
I mean how many days ? Does it makes any difference if I set an Auto Posting campaign for 365 days or 1 day only ? Where's the difference and why between a 365 days campaign and 1 day only ? Can someone please explain in depth ?
2. Number of post for a campaign. For now i set the number of posts to 10 as advised here.
What happens if I set a new campaign with 50 posts ? All 50 posts will show on a single page ? If yes can I use the WP-PageNavi plugin ? Will it work as it should with WP-Answers ?
Thanks in advance.
I have replied to your email :)
When I configured Auto posting it shows as Asked By: Admin. It looks bit awkward. Can I change it? or is this the it works?
Its currently how the system works, we are looking to change this in a future version though.
